Sentieri nuovi
odori diversi
rumori strani
voli di uccelli
paesi lontani.
La tremula zampa
l'incerto cammino
il muso nel vento
un tremendo destino.
Ieri cuccioletto trastullo soffocato
da stupide carezze
triste prigioniero
dei disumani
recinti umani
oggi il tuo dio ti ha tradito
t'ha portato lontano ed è fuggito.
E ora che hai la libertà
la terra le foglie i campi sterminati
sei solo nella sera
e ascolti le campane
con l'angoscia della notte
senza casa e senza pane. (1984)

different smells
strange noises
flights of birds
far away countries.
The tremulous paw
the uncertain path
the muzzle in the wind
a terrible fate.
Yesterday little puppy toy suffocated
from stupid caresses
sad prisoner
of the inhumane
human fences
today your god betrayed you
he took you away and fled.
And now that you have the freedom
the earth, the leaves, the endless fields
you are alone in the evening
and hear the bells
with the anguish of the night
homeless and breadless.
