Il sorriso della nonna
è quel sole di novembre
che per poco brilla ancora
tra la nuvola gigante
e quella fila lunga di piante.
Qualche foglia
rimasta sul pioppo
brilla ancora
di luce dorata
un momento
poi viene dal vento
staccata
e ritorna volando
alla terra
dov’era nata. (1955)
Grandma's smile
it's that November sun
which still barely shines
between the giant cloud
and that long row of plants.
A few leaves
remained on the poplar
still shines
of golden light
one moment
then it comes from the wind
detached
and fly back
to the earth
where she was born.
