mammina povera
poesie
Mammina povera
che metti
due bambini sporchi
in una carrozzella
non lamentarti mai
della tua vita bella.
Quando sei stanca
e tuo marito è furibondo
pensa che sei ancora
la più ricca del mondo:
il tuoi bimbi
o un loro ditino
valgono tutti i tesori
di Gualino.
Quando troverai
un minuto di tempo
pensa alle signore
che hanno ville e castelli
e darebbero tutto
per avere i tuoi bimbi
sporchi e belli.
Quando ti spelli le mani
per il bucato
pensa alle signore
che piangono
per il figlio
che non è mai nato. (1956)
Unfortunate mommy
you put
two dirty kids
in a perambulator
do not complain ever
of your beautiful life.
When you're tired
and your husband is furious
he thinks you are still
the richest in the world:
your babies
or one of their little finger
are worth all the treasures
of Gualino.
When you will find
one minute of time
think of the ladies
which have villas and castles
and they would give everything
to have your children
dirty and beautiful.
When you peel your hands
for the laundry
think of the ladies
who cry
for the son
that never born.
