Di lui conosco
soltanto
le rughe nascoste
nell'anima stanca,
le poche parole
dimesse
spezzate dai lunghi sospiri.
Un dialogo breve
sotto le arcate sante
di Notre Dame
ci legò all'istante:
vibrarono insieme
le più alte antenne
dell'anima:
quasi stretti per mano
come bimbi in cammino
tra le montagne
della vita
guardammo al peccato
alla voragine fiorita
alla tristezza dell'oblio
di tutto... e di Dio

- Mon frère
je suis désespéré.
- Mais non
mon frère, jamais
le Père du ciel
vous abandonne !
- Merci, merci, merci.
Vous étes bon !
-Dieu seul est bon,
mon frère.
Et dans le coin obscure
de cette église
tous les péchés
de la Ville Lumière
se brisent.

Quanto ho amato
quel giorno
il fratello piangente
e consolato.
Non lo vedrò
mai più:
era già vecchio
allora;
ora forse
senza vita sta
con un rosario stinto
tra le mani.
Fra un fratello
in pena;
oggi riposa.
Fratello sconosciuto
dal volto disegnato
nell'anima mia
soltanto,

his hidden wrinkles

in his tired soul,

the few words

resigned

broken by long sighs.

A short dialogue

under the holy arches

of Notre Dame

he tied us instantly:

they vibrated together

the highest antennas

of the soul:

almost holding hands

like children on the way

between the mountains

of life

we looked at sin

to the flowery abyss

to the sadness of oblivion

of everything... and God

- Besides

I am desperate.

- But no

my brother, never

the Heavenly Father

abandon you!

- Thanks thanks thanks.

You are good!

- God alone is good,

my brother.

And in the dark corner

of this church

all the sins

of the City of Light

are breaking.

How much I loved

that day

crying brother

and consoled.

I won't see it

never again:

he was already old

then;

now maybe

it is lifeless

with a faded rosary

in his hands.

in pain;

he today rests.
